Computers and Lab access

  • Queen’s provides several computing labs on campus for student use. Students in first year computing courses should use the Jeffrey Hall lab (Room 155). The lab computers run Windows and have Python 2 and/or 3 installed. Make sure you use Python 3 for all of your CISC 121 assignments. To activate your lab account, visit Account Management. Please note that you do not require a iButton to access the lab in Jeffrey Hall. However, it might take 10 minutes for the lab database to be updated after the activation. So, please be patient. After that, you should be able to log in to any of the lab machines. Changing your NetID password during the term might need to re-activate the lab account. For more information about access and use of the lab see http://courses.caslab.queensu.ca/f-a-q/Every student should activate and make sure the lab account is working probably at the begin of the term.
  • Although there will be no labs for the course, a TA will be available for Q&A session in the Jeffrey hall lab at the begin of the term to help with how to use the lab computers and the Python software. Q&A session times will be announced at the begin of the course.
  • You are welcome to use your own computer for the coursework. Make sure that you use Python 3 for the assignments. Please note that problems with your personal computer will not be considered a reason for late submission of assignments. I therefore strongly suggest to backup your work for assignments regularly (USB device, etc). Ensure that you have up-to-date Antivirus installed and running before submitting assignments.
